About the Velvet Lily

Khara Cartagena was born in the Philippines and came to the Philadelphia area at the age of five. Growing up in the city, she worked in her mother’s retail store and put herself through college at Temple University. Her professional background includes being a Registered Investment Advisor and Vice President of Janney Montgomery Scott, President of two Real Estate Development Companies, AZC Associates LLC and Villa Development, and Sales Manager for Cynosure Lasers.

As a successful businesswoman, she was always exposed to the challenges that face women in a predominantly male culture. Rather than focusing on feelings of disempowerment, she took life head-on as an opportunity, rather than a problem, and lives the motto of being unstoppable. She resides in Philadelphia with her husband, son, and dog and has strong values in:
